Photo Analyisis Contents Stuff

What I have included in each of my analysis'

In each of the 3 evaluations I have made below, I have included;
  • The Subject
  • Reason for the image
  • Is the image special to me?
  • The main focus points
  • Audiences Opinions
  • Comparison to a 'Professional Image'
I have put each evaluation into a separate blogs so that it easier to to keep track on each of these points and so it can be analyzed more carefully.

Evaluation of a Macro shot of a Weever Fish

My picture above, internet to the right

Evaluation of a Macro shot of a Weever Fish
The subject of this image is from the 'as a concept' category and is a macro image. I took this photo because me and my brother were fishing off of a pier down in Bournemouth and Jordan caught this fish, the men fishing beside us said, "Don't touch it's spines!". It was quite strange to me as I didn't know what the fish was and didn't notice its venomous spines at the start. This image is quite special to me because it was my first time fishing off of a pier. This image is focusing on the 'close-ups' category in 'as a concept'. The image, in my opinion, does not need any improvement, apart from the quality of the camera which I cannot fix now. My brother likes this photo because it looks colourful but he thinks it would be better if I had a better camera rather than my phone. My photo in comparison to the 'internet image' to the right actually seems a bit better in terms of colour and the angle of the shot.

Evaluation of a Black and White Landscape Image

My Photo above, Professional photo to the right

Evaluation of a Black and White, Landscape Shot
The subject of this image is from the 'for an exhibition' category and is a black and white, landscape image. I took this photo because I was walking along a path where I usually go camping and the farmers had just finished cutting the grass and turned them into bales. This image is not hugely special to me as there was nothing special happening at the time, I was just going for a walk with my camera to see what I came across. This image is focusing on the 'Pleasant Views' category in 'For an Exhibition'. The image, in my opinion, does not need any improvement. My brother likes this photo because 'It's cool...' but he thinks it would be better if I had a straighter image, using a tripod perhaps. My photo in comparison to the 'professional image' to the right is not as good as I have not got the lighting as good as the other one, some areas are too dark.

Evaluation of a Macro, Black and White Flower

My Image above, professional to the right.

Evaluation of a black and white, macro image of a daisy
The subject of this image is from the 'as a concept' category and is a black and white, macro image. I took this photo because my favorite type of images are macro because they can have very nice details in them. This image is not hugely special to me as there was no special event at the time but it could be a small memory of the campsite I go to, I suppose. This image is focusing on two of the main elements of the subject, macro and black and white. The image could be improved by having the main product of the image more towards the corner perhaps, focusing on the factors of the 'Rule of Thirds'. My brother likes this photo because he likes macro images like this, but he also thinks that it can be improved by using a better quality camera. My photo in comparison to the 'professional image' to the right actually, in my opinion, looks better in terms of better lighting and more scenery to look at. But the 'professional image' is better as the main attraction of the image stands out more as they have blurred out the background better then mine. So it is hard to decide on the better image, as each have their own perks about them.

Take photographic images for a specific purpose

I'm going to be focusing on these three categories:
  • A recorded event (friends or family events/sporting event/Natural event etc...)
  • For an Exhibition (any type of photo)
  • As a concept (black and white/changing seasons/weather/light/close-ups...)
These are what I'm going to take pictures of (an idea anyway):
  • A recorded event_Natural Events - Sunset/Waterfalls/Rain
  • For and Exhibition - Pleasant Views/Lakes/Streams/Silhouette
  • As a Concept_Black and white_Close-ups - Flowers and Plants/Objects/People
When I have taken these images, I will save them to my computer, name them, and place them into certain categories so that it is more organized. Then I will choose about 4-5 images from each category and post them onto my Blog.

These are the images that I have taken:
Recorded Events
This an image of a waterfall that my grandad took me to see sometime last year. It is somewhere in mid-Wales and we wanted to take some pictures of it. It is a natural landscape shot with lots of greenery on each side.
This is a view from my bedroom window and saw it as a good opportunity to take a picture. It is a sort of semi-silhouette picture of a sunset with lots of different colours in the sky.

This is an image I took whilst I was down in Bournemouth with my family. I decided to go fishing early in the morning, so I took a picture. It a shot from the beach of the ocean just as the sun was rising.
This is a shot from outside a caravan I was staying in whilst I was down in Bournemouth. It is a silhouette shot with a nice orange coloured background.

This is another shot from my bedroom window of the sun rays beaming through the clouds. I would say it is a silhouette shot.

For an Exhibition

This is my little brother running and my twin brother walking beside him. I took a picture of him whilst he was playing with a football and he looks really happy. It is an action shot as he is running across the grass.
This is another picture of my little brother smiling into the camera from in his car seat (he looks sort of like the troll face here). It is a portrait image.
This is an image of Rogiet Quarry sometime near the end of last year. It is quite bright and full of greenery which is surprising for the time of year it was taken. It is a landscape image from on top of one of the cliffs.
I took this image whilst on the same trip with my grandad (to the waterfall). I thought it would be nice to have a shot of the path leading up a hill. It is a long shot with greenery over hanging each side.
This is an image from a campsite that i am very familiar with as I used to go there all the time with my family; It's called 'Forrest Fields' in mid-Wales. This is the field, that is at the bottom of the hill, just after the grass had been cut and rolled into bales. It is a black and white landscape shot.

As A Concept

This is an image I took when I went out with my twin brother on a little photography trip around the campsite (all of the below are too and the name of the campsite is above). I used this image as it matches two of the things listed 'as a concept'.  It is a black and white macro shot of a daisy.

This is just next to a small jetty on a lake where we go camping. It's a macro shot of a small, straight stone with the sun shining on the ground behind it.
This image also matches two areas from the category 'as a concept', macro and black and white.
This is just the glowing ashes from a small campfire we had whilst camping. It is a macro shot with a sort of silhouette effect.

This is a shot I took of a small river somewhere in mid-Wales. It is a macro shot and the background is blurred; this makes the water look more detailed.

Wide Shot Cropped

This was the original image before all of the below cropped images. As I cropped them it decreased the quality of the image.

I drew a small box with the selection tool and then dragged it in front of the cars. Then I copied and pasted it into a new file and saved it.

I dragged the small box, that i created for the first image, up so that I could have an image of the trees in the background. I wanted it to be the same size so that the quality is the same as eachother. I used the same box for them all.

Each image, although all from the same shot, seem to look different, creating a variety of shots which is more interesting.

I wanted to sort of create another wide shot to capture most of the cars in one shot. I think this looks more interesting like this rather than the original.

Types of Phtographs

These are a few different types of photo's that were taken on the second run around the school.
 Long Shot
This is a long shot of the Technology blocks. This can work good if you want lines. This slightly follows the Rule of Thirds.

 Macro
These are macro (close up) images of a flower and some dead grass. This is supposed to capture a better quality image of the object. These images are also good for getting textures or lines.

 Medium Shot
This is a medium shot of the metal barbs connected to the Technology blocks. It looks more interesting on strange angles like this. This image contains a lot of random lines.
Silhouette
This is a silhouette image, looking up at a tree. This is when you main part of the image automatically turns black on a brighter background. Also follows the Rule of Thirds.
